Colognes for Men

Colognes have become popular among men and solid colognes are an interesting addition to the world of men’s fragrance. Yes, men enjoy smelling good. The Viking Revolution takes that fact seriously!! I discovered the Viking Revolution browsing through Amazon. I found their solid cologne and that sparked my interest. The added dimension that fragrances bring to my persona interested me. One thing I don’t like about liquid colognes is that they get concentrated in one small area. I prefer to have the fragrance spread out over a larger area without applying so much I send people running for fresh air when I enter a room. I like the controlled application one gets from solid colognes. Viking Revolution has a 4 Pack of Men’s Solid Cologne. These are 0.5 oz bars and each bar contains a different fragrance. All are wonderful!! If you are like me, you are not that familiar with solid colognes, I wasn’t. There are not technical facts to learn to know enough to make competent decisions about solid colognes. There is a little information though; you will want to know the following.

The Best Colognes for Men

So, what exactly are solid colognes? They are a blend of aromatic liquids that are extracted from different plants. To solidify them, the manufacturer mixes these liquids with molten wax and lets it harden. The fragrance fuses with the wax which then deposits the fragrance when applied to your body. The extracted liquid can combine with the wax because it is an oil. These organic oils are called essential oils. I had often seen the term “essential oils” but never knew what it meant. These oils are called “essential”, because they contain the aromatic essence of the plant. I found that rather cool. Fragrances are organic substances! I’m sure there are many manufactured fragrances out there, but these would not be derived from essential oils.

Solid colognes made with essential oils contribute a pleasant scent to the body, but they do much more. This is what I really like about solid colognes. Because they are oils and the wax deposits them over a larger area of the body, they moisturize the skin. Personally, I have dry skin and that is a big advantage for me.

Viking Revolution has a large assortment of these fragrances in their solid colognes. The following are some you will enjoy.

  • Cedar Wood
  • Clary Sage
  • Vetiver
  • Sandalwood
  • Balm

With many fragrances available, the adventurous man’s olfactory footprint can become much more daring and a conspicuous part of his image. Let’s learn about the plants that give us the fragrances listed above.

Best Smelling Colognes for Men

Cedarwood is an evergreen conifer. Its essential oil is extracted from its needles, leaves, bark, and berries.

Clary Sage is an aromatic mint from southern Europe. It has medicinal properties that have been used to calm the mind. Thus, a cologne made from this fragrance would be soothing, a not insignificant property.

The cologne called Vetiver comes from tall, perennial grass of southeastern Asia. The essential oil is extracted from its roots.

Another essential oil that comes from a tree is sandalwood. This plant grows in southern India and Australia and is its wood is used for ornamental carvings and cabinet work.

Finally, the essential oil, balm, derives from herbs of the mint family. It is also extracted from tropical evergreen trees cultivated in temperate climates.

The five fragrances discussed here are all organic substances. They chemical concoctions created in a laboratory. They are totally products of nature and I believe that is significant. To me, aromas created in a laboratory, even if they are imitations of natural aromas, have a hard, mechanical quality. They lack the soft edges of fragrances one finds in nature and the subtle variety. These odors do not vary naturally. They repeat in unnatural ways. I like this variation one finds in nature. I was also surprised that some of these essential oils have medicinal qualities.

Viking Revolution

The Viking Revolution brings to the market place a sense of craftsmanship seldom found in today’s world of mass markets. I would say, an old world craftsmanship. It takes men’s grooming back to a time when the wheels of the world were turned by craftsmanship. The true value of craftsmanship does not lie in the fact that its products are made by hand. The characteristics that sets things made by hand apart from those made by machine is the natural mark of the hand-made, subtle variations. This is what Viking Revolution has achieved in its solid colognes. A bar of Sandel Wood Cologne by Viking Revolution is more like a work of art than a product. Its fragrance will tell the world you appreciate such things.

    • Jake, Thank you for your comments.  It’s interesting that you recognized the concept of masculine sophistication.  That was a concept I discovered as I researched and wrote the blog.  I personally haven’t tried Viking Solid Cologne but I plan to do that.  Colognes are a new world for me.  In my youth, I could have cared less.  Now that I am getting older, fragrances intrigue me. I don’t know why, but solid colognes just seem more suited to men.  At least that is how I feel.  I think the fragrance may interact in a more time delayed manner if applied through a wax.  There may be more control there.  I’m sure there is less control in the pH interaction of the skin and the oil if applied as a liquid I see it is a dimension of myself that I have simply not experienced. I’ll have to do a blog on that.  Thank you for your questions.
